Safari 3

Wow, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the Safari 3 beta release yesterday, which I am typing this post on right now. Some of my observations so far:

  • New find (Cmd+F) UI – the new find seems to take page from Firefox’s find UI. Safari’s is at the top though and supports highlighting on the page in a typical Apple like manor.
  • Add Bookmarks for These Tabs – Book mark all your open links
  • Finally support for stylized buttons!
  • Alpha transparency in PNG Sorry that’s IE7 ;-)
  • Web inspector is now built in (to the debug menu)
  • Resizable Textareas!!! This is one of my favorites so far.
  • Speed – It’s noticeably faster on a a few web apps I’m using.
  • More to come…

One thing I am noticing more than Safari 2 is the loading bar (ie the address bar) is loading like crazy as I’m typing into Typo and it is refreshing via AJAX. Also, I am noticing some differences in handling styles, mainly overflow scrollbars on divs that aren’t there in Safari 2.

Oh, yeah and thankfully it’s now available on Windows!!! Who saw that coming? Now there is no excuse for people running Windows…now if they could just do something with the craptastic font support on Windows I might consider using it never mind.
